Session Five - TREMBLE

SCRIPTURES:

Revelations 22:12-21
2 Timothy 3:1-5
Hosea 11:10
Psalm 96:9
Psalm 2:11
Philippians 2:12-16

POINTS OF DISCUSSION:

1. When did the church stop reverencing God?
2. The power of fear and trembling.

"We tremble before man, we tremble before sickness, we tremble before finance, we tremble before government, we tremble at conflict, we tremble at pain, we tremble in worry and anxiety… but we no longer tremble before God. We decided a long time ago that our parents had it wrong and God was more mercy than judgment, more friend than Father. In our sin nature we created a God in our own image and made him everything we thought it would be best for a god to be."

........

"So where did the trembling go? It left along with our reverence toward God… and I will just add in my own opinion - along with reverence toward His house.

When did we stop fearing God? When did we make Him so palatable? When did buddy God replace Holy God and friendship overtake God-ship?

Because I believe if we can pinpoint these things, they will coincide with the astronomical rise of sin, addiction and bondage within the Body of Christ at large. I believe that when the fear and trembling left the working out of our salvation, we ceased to work it out at all. We adopted a mercy and grace mentality, hired preachers and teachers that would reinforce our views and then made rock stars out of them. We buy their books, watch their programs, chase their conferences, and walk away feeling great about ourselves, having very little understanding of a Holy and Righteous God."

........

"When did the power leave the church? When we started making God small and manageable, tame and obedient. When we took on a form of godliness but denied the power of it."

........

"Little gods lie. They tell you what you want to hear and make it sound right and reasonable. They sing to you and pat your back and sympathize with your issues. Fake gods tell you it is not sin to do the things you once knew to be sin.. but now have a more enlightened approach to. Fake gods convince you that the pursuit of holiness is not necessary because ultimately only God can be holy. Fake gods make for a popular and sanitized gospel and remove all fear, reverence and trembling from our walk with God.

And with it, we remove wisdom, healing and consecration from His house. We have no wisdom because we consider His commands suggestions, we have no reverence because we have wrongly reduced Him to human standards of friendship, and we no longer separate our lives unto Him because we see no need to stop straddling the fence and choosing from both sides… after all, God is love – right? And we sleep on."

........

"You see, I believe when we come fully awake, we will tremble. Some of us for the first time ever, and some as we return to what we once knew to be true of God. When we return to a right understanding of the One True and Living God, the Holy One of Israel, The Alpha and Omega – we should tremble. When we enthrone the God of the whole counsel of the Word, we will bow, we will fear and we will tremble.

If you do not tremble, you do not know His justice. If you do not stand in awe, you do not know His goodness, and if you do not bow, you do not know His power."

Session Three - Justice and Mercy

Scripture Text

Habakkuk 3:1, 2 God, I have heard what our ancestors say about you, and I’m stopped in my tracks, down on my knees. Do among us what you did among them, work among us as you worked among them. And as you bring judgment, as you surely must, remember mercy. (MSG)

Ezekiel 16:49 'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned;

Points of Discussion:

PROBLEM

1. Spiritual Arrogance - Critical Spirits, Spirits of Offense, Judgment and self-righteousness
2. Gluttons for spiritual experiences with no passion for obedience to Christ
3. Self- centered lives based solely on what we want to do, while discounting and disregarding the integrity of commitment. Apathy.

SOLUTION

1. Humility - Re-establishing the Lordship of Christ in our lives.
2. Clarifying Spiritual Hunger and pursuing nourishment that is eternal in nature.
3. Get in the game. Full engagement in the work of God in the earth. Renewed commitment to serve His people and follow His heart.

CALLING ALL LIONS...

I saw in my spirit

THE ALPHA LION.

He stepped into the center of the plains of the earth

And sent forth a roar that rode the winds;

That shook the firmament.

Reaching distant lands and crossing seas,

He called them up.

He called the out.

And from the corners of all nations

They began to arise…

THE PRIDE OF LIONS.

They stood to their feet and shook themselves.

Mighty manes aflame WITH FIERCE BEAUTY,

Their flesh trembled, awakened at the sound of the roar.

Erect and powerful,

Breathing in the Warrior Wind,

They gave an answering roar…

And the earth began to pound

The sound of their passage

Into the battle.

Kings moving.

Shoulder to shoulder they ran.

Prairies, valleys, mountains, field,

All release their lions…

To the cry of the Alpha song:

COME STRONG

For Your Information...

This site is specifically designed to promote your participation. We will use this site to share class information. If you miss a session, this will be your resource. Notes and worksheets, as well as a link to the audio file of the teaching will be made available within a reasonable amount of time following the initial class presentation. This way we can all stay on the same page. You may also post any questions or comments you might have regarding sessions. It is my hope that this will be a useful tool for all of those trying to follow the classes online, and will make this a more interactive experience for all involved.
